Cosmetic surgery is generally sought by patients to improve their appearance, and is usually not covered by insurance. Reconstructive surgery often repairs damage from disease, surgery, injury, or some problem present from birth. Such surgery usually restores function to the body and is often covered by medical insurance. Some procedures fall into a gray area between the two, and may or may not be covered.
